Warshop Studios... Game Night!

Lightbulb Warshop Studios... Game Night!
So WG and I were talking about StarCraft and how we should have another match since we haven't done it in awhile... and one thing leads to another and well, I'm sure most everyone here has StarCraft and I know that other games, like Demigod and Company of Heroes are also popular... so I propose Warshop Studios Game Nights =)

Who's with me?

They'll be games that if you don't have them, you probably should Wink Company of Heroes and StarCraft are prime examples there.

I'd be partial to some Dawn of War 2 as well particularly after the There Is Only War patch but CoH is the better of the two and DoW 2's penetration hasn't been as good (well, penetration among my friends anyway).

Left 4 Dead? I have CoH but haven't updated to the latest patch. CoH would be good imo Big Grin. I call Nazi's. Big Grin

Umm... I don't have StarCraft.

For anyone that doesn't have StarCraft, it's only $15 on the Blizzard Store for SC and SC: Brood War. One of the best RTS games of all time for $15 and if that isn't enough for you, the singleplayer campaigns alone that are included with that will keep you busy for the equivalent of far more than $15. Ofc, MP is its claim to fame though.

RE: Warshop Studios... Game Night!
=.= I didn't like the setout of Starcraft. It was just meh. I doubt SC2 will do anything to amend this. It's definitely not my cup of tea.

Warcraft III was good, it continued the storyline and I loved Warcraft Lore (until WoW came along).

And I have played both, thankyou very much Whiplash. And I've even beaten one of the campaigns on Starcraft. It's just meh.

RE: Warshop Studios... Game Night!
Well, if you've beaten one of the StarCraft campaigns then that 99% means you beat the Terran campaign from SC vanilla... which, if you were unimpressed by the storyline/lore of that then I dunno what to say really. However, there is the chance that you played Brood War's Protoss campaign first and then I could see why you'd be meh on the storyline 'cause you picked it up mid-storyline with no clue of what was going on.

Also, storyline doesn't matter much for MP- just putting that out there.

So anyway, for anyone who does have StarCraft, interested in a StarCraft Game Night tonight (Wednesday July 1st)?

RE: Warshop Studios... Game Night!
Well, ended-up working instead, lol. That's not a bad thing though Wink

Anyway, there is apparently some renewed interest in an old map of mine, Balance Wars, for WC3. A different take on the Footmen Wars genre pretty much where instead of only commanding an army of a single unit type and using them more or less as glorified fodder for hero PvP, the heroes sit back and take more of a support role while you choose a duo to form your army with. The duos themselves are like Footmen + Riflemen, Necromancers + Banshees, etc... they've all been tweaked to be work together (for example, Footmen's attack got sizably debuffed but their defense, particularly against ranged attacks, got buffed while Riflemen's range got massively buffed as did their damage but their attack speed was debuffed greatly, making them more like snipers) so the emphasis is on using your massed units tactically and also, ofc, coordinating with your teammates.

DL Link for anyone who's interested

That version is about ~4 years old. I had been working on a completely new, ground-up version with new terrain (for added tactics pretty much as atm it's just standard arena-style terrain), that allowed for player-chosen duos (so instead of being handed premade duos, the player could create his/her own duo from eight units within his/her race), and I was also revamping the heroes so that they went by race with the original four + four custom for each race, designed to be in even more of a support role but because they are race-specific they could provide that support better- ofc, neutrals would still be available as well. Never completed that though because of GTW then Wartide and etc etc so I could never put the proper time in for the requisite scripting. Still kinda interested in doing it though I'd need some additional help just to take a load of work off my shoulders.

Balance Wars game night is on atm. Hop onto Bnet (Lordaeron realm) and channel Warshop Studios if you're up for some (add TerranUp16 to your friends if there's no one there in case we've already started so you can whisper me).

Mebe.

Anyway, my university's LAN club is hosting a StarCraft 2v2 (random teams) tournament on the 18th so I'm looking to play a fair bit of MP SC between now and then. Any takers?

Not in for your club. XD

But a online game or two of Starcraft won't hurt.

What time?

Now? xD

Nah, not now, but we can tonight if you want around 8pm EST or whatever works (reply with what's best for you and we'll try). Atm I have some reports to work on in the staff area that need to get done asap and quite a few members are on so there are discussions to be had as well. After that though I'll have some time that I can play around with (have plenty of stuff to get done, but I won't have anything that is, "it needs to get done NAOW!").

Total side note, but as you guys can see, setting this stuff up is rather freeform. So suggest away on what you'd like to do.

Anyway, aja and I are planning more StarCraft tomorrow, but aside from that I also want to try and set-up a 2v2v2 or more game of Balance Wars Beta F if possible. I'm working on v2.0 atm and still want to do some additional research into what else needs improvement/redesign/tweaking/etc. When is really up to you guys as the 2v2v2 or more is somewhat vital. *Could* host the thing publicly but I'd rather work with a small group to get more direct and accurate feedback.

So we now have enough for 5v5 Demigod =) Myself, Whiplash, Jim, Death, and now Shigee have the game (Dragonskull also does but last I heard he was trying to get his router to stop blocking UDP). So we should definitely have a Demigod Game Night now.
